What a wind damage job involves.
Wind damage is the one kind of storm damage people usually do spot, because shingles end up in the yard. What is easy to miss is the damage next to the gap.
When wind lifts a shingle it often does not tear it off. It breaks the seal strip underneath and folds the shingle back, which leaves a crease across the mat. The shingle drops back into place and looks fine from the ground, but the seal is gone and the crease is a fracture line. The next strong wind takes it, and in the meantime water can drive up underneath.

That is why a repair after a windstorm covers more than the obvious gap. Creased shingles have to be found, and the shingles around a missing one have usually lost their seal too.
Edges and corners take the worst of it, because that is where wind pressure concentrates. So do ridge caps. If a roof has already had a windy few years, the seals may be weak across whole slopes rather than in one spot.
If a storm caused it rather than age, it is often claimable. We document it the same way we document hail, with photographs from every slope before anything is touched.

Only a couple of shingles came off. Is that worth calling about?
Usually yes, because the shingles around the gap have often lost their seal too, and creased shingles look normal from the ground. A short inspection tells you whether it is a two-shingle job or a slope.
What is a creased shingle?
One that wind folded back and dropped into place again. The seal is broken and the mat has a fracture line across it. It looks fine from the ground and it will fail in the next strong wind.
Can you get out quickly after a storm?
We prioritize open roofs and active leaks, and we can tarp to stop further damage while a full repair is scheduled. After a major storm the whole metro calls at once, so the sooner you reach us the better.
Is wind damage covered by insurance?
Often, if the wind caused it rather than wear. Most Texas policies handle wind and hail together, frequently with their own deductible. We document it either way so you have the option.
