What a hail damage job involves.
North Texas takes hail every year, and the damage it does to a roof is mostly invisible from the driveway. Hail rarely punches a hole. It bruises the shingle, knocking the granules loose and leaving the mat underneath exposed to UV, which then ages years faster than the rest of the roof.
That is what makes hail claims awkward. A roof can be genuinely damaged and still look completely normal to the homeowner, so the damage sits unreported while the filing deadline in the policy runs down.

The Difference
Where the details matter.
The tell-tale signs are on the soft metals rather than the shingles. Gutters, downspouts, vents, flashing, window screens and the top of an air conditioner condenser all dent before a shingle shows anything. If a storm dented the gutters, it almost certainly reached the roof.
Documentation is what a hail claim turns on. Photographs from every slope, a marked test square, measurements, and the collateral damage on the metals give an adjuster something concrete to agree with. Denials usually trace back to what was missing from the file rather than to what the storm did.
If the claim is approved, the repair or replacement follows the same standard as any other job we do. If it is denied, that is not always the end of it, and we can talk through what a reinspection would need.

Hail Damage, answered.
How do I know if my roof has hail damage?
Usually you cannot tell from the ground. Check the soft metals first: dented gutters, downspouts, vents or window screens are a strong sign the roof took the same hit. A free inspection settles it either way.
How long do I have to file a hail claim?
Your policy sets the deadline and it varies. Because hail damage is often invisible from the ground, roofs can sit damaged for months while that clock runs, which is why an inspection after a storm is worth doing even if nothing looks wrong.
What is a test square?
A marked-off section of the roof, usually ten feet by ten feet, where the hail strikes are counted. Adjusters use it to judge whether damage is widespread enough to warrant replacing the slope rather than repairing it.
Will a hail claim raise my premium?
That is between you and your insurer and depends on your policy and your area. We can tell you what the damage is and what the claim would cover, but the premium question is one for your agent.
